Arlin Sorensen serves as the CEO and Founder of the Heartland Companies which includes HTG Peer Groups. When he is not traveling to speak and consult, Arlin is home on his farm in Iowa with his wife Nancy. He is a proud “Pop” to four precocious grandchildren who serve as daily reminders of why he is intentionally living to leave a strong legacy of faith and integrity. He loves making a difference in the lives and companies of small to mid-market business owners.
Brad Schow is part of a team of coaches and consultants serving the IT industry. Prior to joining the HTG Peer Groups staff, he spent 20 years helping grow a solutions and managed service provider. His path of technician, service leader, operations leader, president and partner give him a unique perspective that allows him to relate to a broad spectrum of business challenges. Brad’s company was a member of HTG for many years. He credits much of the success to the peer group experience and the relationships that grew out of HTG. He loves investing in people, thinking ahead, building teams, and helping others find success.
Scott Scrogin is president of HTG Peer Groups. Prior to joining the HTG staff, he spent 12 years in IT service delivery, training and channel development. Scott’s memberships in peer groups and other communities contributed to his understanding of the power of peers. He is passionate about helping others achieve their goals and potential in life and business. Scott enjoys sharing his lessons learned, and learning from other leaders.
Peter (Pete) Sorensen comes to HTG Peer Groups with a decade of experience in process management and leading change. As a Partner with HTG Peer Groups, Pete leads a growing organization that consistently delivers results by walking with business leaders to help them grow and achieve their goals, both personal and professional. His unique background has equipped him with the ability to offer unique insight into strategic and business direction and alignment, with a strong focus on financial performance and organizational improvement.
Laurie Sorensen serves as a Learning Architect with HTG where she is energized by thinking, planning, speaking and writing on topics to help HTG members grow their leadership. Laurie is the author of the Planning for Success workbook which guides people through Business, Leadership, Life, and Legacy planning the HTG Way. She blends her intuitive ability to connect with people and her passion for HTG as she designs learning experiences that help people to grow personally and go home equipped to make a difference for others. Outside of work hours you can find Laurie spending time with international students or volunteering with Safe Families, a ministry that helps to stabilize families in need.
Israel Lang is part of a team of coaches and consultants serving the IT industry. Prior to joining the HTG Peer Groups staff, he spent almost 20 years in various roles in service and operations at a solutions and managed service provider. Israel’s company was a member of HTG for many years, and he is a strong proponent of the peer group experience. He loves helping companies go further faster through developing executives, managers, and teams into effective leaders who reach their fullest potentials.
Rich Anderson is an executive coach with HTG Peer Groups where he is most energized by helping people plan and execute around their priorities. He also presents leadership workshops and seminars including team personality and judgment assessments and training.
Prior to his affiliation with HTG, Rich was a private practice attorney where his practice included advising small business owners from startup through succession, estate planning, and conflict resolution. Rich also served four terms in the Iowa Legislature.
Hardin Byars is an Executive Coach at HTG where his primary focus is helping CEOs achieve their personal and corporate potential. He also advises Senior Executives on strategic planning and organizational development to drive sustainable growth. Prior to his affiliation with HTG Hardin was CEO of Intellinet, a nationally managed Microsoft partner focused on maximizing the business value of corporate IT investments.
With over 30 years of diverse leadership experience, Hardin is most energized by helping people apply their God-given talent to achieve their potential and create business value.
Andre Gilmore is a Senior Consultant and Facilitator with HTG Peer Groups. Prior to joining the HTG Peer Groups staff, he spent almost 20 years in various roles in small business ownership, operations management and business process improvement. He is passionate about analyzing company financial data to plan for the future, and helping companies improve their level of execution by implementing sound business processes.
With over 20 years in Sales and Business Development at OXEN Technology (formerly Heartland Technology Solutions – HTS), Joddey joins HTG as Director of Business Development.
He says, “Sales is not just a job, it is everything (OK, I may be a bit biased). I love the thrill of selling and helping customers – either those who are existing or those that will become one sooner or later – reach their goals. I also enjoy helping others learn more about sales, the process, and why it is so important to the success of their business!”
He loves to have fun and spend time with friends and family.
John is a sales and business development expert who specializes in coaching for all levels of the organization to maximize results from the sales and leadership functions.
His expertise, knowledge and experience will help value add resellers build successful sales habits and strategies that maximize strengths and close any existing gaps in knowledge or skills. John is dedicated to providing custom assessments, sales and leadership training, game plans and coaching — executives, sales leadership and account executives will benefit from these offerings.
He lives in South Carolina with his wife and two daughters. He is an avid cyclist and enjoys time riding with friends and family.
Ken Shetler’s responsibilities are focused on cultivating vendor partnerships and other strategic relationships that are critical to the organization’s overall success. His prior experience has brought him a unique combination of skills, including market analysis, business development and operations expertise, plus a highly effective communications style.
With Ken’s guidance, the HTG sponsorship program has become a tremendous success. He digs deep to fully understand where HTG Peer Group members and sponsoring vendors can derive the most value from the program, and selects the best of opportunities for the entire community. Those selected support the development of long-term relationships and business prospects with the high performing HTG Membership. The HTG “difference” is evident in every aspect of the program.
Kaitlin Johnson is a recent graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she studied Advertising/Public Relations, Business Management with a focus on Leadership in Organization, and Dance. While in college, Kaitlin had various internships ranging from working in marketing for the Arbor Day Foundation, communications with the Nebraska Governor’s Office, and marketing and sales at ConAgra Foods. She thoroughly enjoys learning from every opportunity and interacting with diverse people. Kaitlin’s ultimate dream in life is to learn how to fly a plane.
Michael Pearce has a degree in Design for Television and Film, and has worked extensively in the industry for thirty years as a Writer, Cameraman, Editor, Director of Photography, Producer, and Director. His work has taken him to Africa, Europe, Mexico, throughout Canada and the United States. Prior to joining Sky Mill Studios, Mike and his wife, Whitney, owned a small advertising/production studio where he worked with NBA Entertainment, PBS, The History Channel, ON24, The Discovery Channel, The Food Network, Dick Clark Productions, FNN, and Turner Broadcast. He’s won numerous Telly Awards, Videographer Awards and has been nominated for three Emmys.
Whitney Pearce has known she loved graphic design since she was an eighth grader in Wisconsin and did a career interview for a school project. After getting her degree in Graphic Design/Advertising, she headed to Los Angeles to find her dream job and unexpectedly met her dream husband there. Her solid experience and creativity result in great design and happy clients. She has years of award-winning work under her belt, including an International “Bronze Quill” award and the covers of two books on the New York Times Best Seller list. Prior to joining Sky Mill Studios, Whitney and her husband, Mike, owned a small advertising/production studio where she created branding, websites, and collateral for large and small businesses. In her free time you’ll find her with her family, reading, cooking or gardening.
Mike’s formal experience in post-production began at Escape Studios in London where he had the opportunity to work with footage from a number of motion pictures and popular tv shows. Upon returning to the states, Mike expanded his skills as Co-Founder & President of Varvid, Inc. in 2009 before founding Sky Mill Studios with Mike and Whitney Pearce in 2015. Mike has over a decade of management experience overseeing large teams and budgeting project costs in the face of grueling deadlines and an unpredictable economy. He has successfully managed numerous marketing projects and video campaigns for clients such as HP, Microsoft, Cisco, ConnectWise, Xerox, Ingram Micro, HTG, ASCII and many others. Mike’s worn a number of hats over the years and enjoys new challenges, especially in his creative endeavors – it’s safe to say his underlying motivation has always been driven by a firm foundation in the creative process.
As the Vendor Services Coordinator at HTG, Becky Teal’s primary focus is managing vendor deliverables and assisting Vendor Members to foster meaningful relationships in the HTG community. Prior to joining HTG she was the KnovaSolutions Coordinator at HCMS Group, a data analytic and telephonic nursing service located in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Becky enjoys helping HTG Vendor Members connect with Members in new and innovative ways, while creating strategic relationships.
Connie oversees membership, as well as the facilitators, of HTG. Her experience includes 21 years of service to Heartland Technology Solutions/OXEN Technology in the roles of VP of Service and President. She was also a peer group member in the HTG community. Connie is active in her church and serves as a youth leader and worship leader. She has three boys who are married, along with 5 grandkids. Connie earned her bachelors at Iowa State University.
A noted thought leader and synergist, Brad DeSent brings to HTG Peer Groups more than 25 years of senior management, technology consulting and business operations experience with expertise across a broad range of sectors. Brad has played an integral role in establishing and propelling several highly successful start-up technology firms and communities. As program manager for HTG Online, Brad’s responsibilities include developing the HTG Online program framework and curriculum and recruiting members. Brad works closely with HTG members helping them improve operations and improve results.
Peggy Cole is the Executive Assistant for the HTG Coaches and Consultants and brings over 6 years of experience to her current role. She is motivated by helping others grow personally and professionally in HTG.
Marsha Gentry is the Accounting Manager and comes to HTG with more than 20 years accounting experience in a variety of industries from service to non-profit community living. She enjoys detail work to ensure the most accurate reporting. Her goal is to help the HTG leadership team instill best business practices within the organization by recognizing the impact of decisions on financial statements, while not losing site of the value of the human relationship. She really enjoys interacting with the members and vendors to further strengthen their experience with HTG.
Randy is the Chief Technology Officer for HTG. He has been with Heartland Companies since 1995 and was the third employee to join. He brings knowledge and expertise that is invaluable to the success of HTG. His formal training was in Accounting and Business. Previously, Randy managed and worked with small and large loan offices in the Omaha area. Eventually, the Savings and Loan business brought him back to Harlan, IA. When the Savings and Loan crisis hit, Randy realized there was a more satisfying opportunity available. He met Arlin who was growing a computer business in the middle of a cornfield. After that it’s history – he joined Arlin in the summer. With Arlin’s vision, success and passion to make a difference there was, and is, never a dull moment. Randy has enjoyed being his “IT Guy” all these years.
Elizabeth serves as the Meetings Coordinator and Administrative Team Lead, as well as the Executive Assistant to Partner, Pete Sorensen. Her primary focus is managing meeting planning, onsite meeting execution and any additional administrative support needed throughout the HTG team. Passionate about making a difference, Elizabeth enjoys the breadth of the HTG communities she supports.
Robyn Schow is an administrative assistant at HTG. Since 2009, Robyn has volunteered for HTG Peer Groups and officially joined the team in 2013. She assists in multiple departments including human resources, hospitality, and company events on the farm. Her background experience is as an office assistant, home educator, women’s ministry leader and bookstore manager.
Sue Sorensen is the Accounting Assistant, bringing over 20 years of experience to the team. She started working with HTG in 2008, contributing her financial and organizational skills to ensure streamlined procedures and accurate financial data. Her experience in both helping customers and resolving issues will benefit all HTG members as she continues to meet or exceed expectations in the accounting arena.
