The Super Heroes of HTG
What a week we just experienced at HTG Summit 2011 in Dallas. I wanted to take a minute to let people know the magnitude of the event we just completed, and thank those who really are the stars. HTG has a very small staff to serve our 250 members and over 50 vendor sponsors. Three full time, one part time, an old guy, and some youngsters who we recruit for our events. It is a lot of work and some very long days leading up to and during the event. I want to highlight the team for you and give credit where credit is due.
Scott Scrogin is Hercules in my book. He carries the weight of the HTG program on his shoulders and makes it happen. Scott manages to keep our members placed in the ri...

Are You Ready For The Big Shows?
This was originally written and published on the ConnectWise IT Nation blog. A special thanks to Christy Sacco for helping pull these tips together. Here it comes. The biggest week in event action for 2010. The HTG Q4 meetings ahead of the ConnectWise Partner Summit. It doesn’t get any more action packed and important than this week. So the question is – are you ready? Not for some football – but to get the most value out of a very long, tiring, expensive and draining week. We all spend far too much time and money on events not to prepare properly. But more often than not, that is how many folks come to an event – totally unprepared to maximize the value they will receive. Most of the value f...

CRN Power100 Women in IT
CRN released their list of the 100 most powerful women in IT. I am unsure of their criteria, but there are three that definitely belong on that list from HTS/HTG. I have been privileged to work with all of them closely and have experienced their excellence and solid leadership.A month or so ago, HTG hosted our second CEO Forum in Denver and had Colleen Abdullah who is CEO of WOW as our speaker. She was dynamic and extremly engaging. One thing she said I have not forgotten was this: "If you want to succeed in the business world today, you need to have some strong women on the management team". May be paraphrased a bit, but the message was clear. The days are over of male dominance in the boar...

The HTG SWOT process in action
This week I was blessed to spend a few days on the east coast with the team at NTS in the Fort Lauderdale area. Scott Mallet leads the team and is a member of HTG13. The HTG SWOT team consisted of Steve Riat from Hays Kansas from HTG3, Kyle Elworthy from Charlotte who also is in HTG13, Christy Sacco and myself from HTG. We began our intense two days of interaction with the NTS team Tuesday morning and ended with a final presentation on Wednesday late afternoon. Typically these events take two days as it gives us time to interact with each team member and watch business happen over the course of a couple days. The host company, NTS in this case, prepares for 45-60 days in advance by pulling ...

What a Week in Orlando
This past week HTG members and ConnectWise partners descended on Orlando for the HTG Q4 meetings and the ConnectWise Partner Summit. Both events were packed and very well executed (except for a little AV fiasco you had to be there to appreciate). HTG members spent two days working to drive business and personal growth by holding each other accountable. We have moved to using a standardized quarterly board review template that members use to prepare and present their quarterly performance. From that background information, the other 11 members provide feedback and direction for the future. Feedback on the change was very strong. We are shifting from being backward looking at historical ...
